THE VESSEL
This 1987 CHB 46 Motor Yacht is one of the most respected and capable cruising and liveaboard motor yachts available in its class. Built by Chien Hwa Boat Building Co. of Taiwan during the golden era of quality Taiwanese yacht construction, the CHB 46 has earned a loyal following among serious cruisers and liveaboards for its exceptional build quality, spacious and liveable interior, and proven long-range passagemaking capability. With low-hour twin Perkins diesels, a Northern Lights generator, and a thoughtfully equipped interior ready as a full-time liveaboard, this vessel represents an outstanding opportunity at this price point.
DESIGNER & BUILDER HERITAGE
CHB — Chien Hwa Boat Building Co. — was established in Taiwan during the 1960s and became one of the most respected production yacht builders to emerge from the celebrated Taiwanese boatbuilding industry. During the 1970s and 1980s, Taiwan produced some of the finest fiberglass cruising yachts ever built, and CHB was consistently among the best. CHB motor yachts were designed with serious cruisers in mind, built for long-range passagemaking, comfortable extended liveaboard use, and the structural durability that keeps these vessels in active service decades after leaving the yard. The CHB 46 became a benchmark vessel in its class, praised by owners and surveyors alike for its heavy construction, generous layout, and practical intelligence of design.
BUILD QUALITY & CONSTRUCTION
CHB built the 46 Motor Yacht using heavy hand-laid fiberglass construction — thick, solid, and built to offshore standards. The full-displacement hull delivers excellent sea-keeping characteristics, a stable and comfortable motion offshore, and structural integrity that survives decades of serious use. The deep, heavy keel provides exceptional directional stability and a confidence-inspiring ride in open water. The interior joinery reflects the high standard of craftsmanship that defined Taiwanese yacht building at its peak, rich, warm wood throughout, fitted and finished to a standard not found in comparable modern production boats. Storage throughout is smartly and practically designed, reflecting the thinking of a builder who understood how people actually live aboard for extended periods.
LAYOUT & LIVING SPACES
Step aboard through the large starboard sliding door and you enter a world of genuine cruising comfort. The CHB 46 was designed from the outset as a serious liveaboard and long-range cruiser, and every detail of the interior reflects that purpose.
Salon
The main salon is a large, open, and welcoming living space with windows all around — bright, airy, and comfortable in all conditions. The lower helm station is integrated into the salon, keeping the captain connected to both the navigation equipment and the social heart of the boat. Two large, luxury movie-theater-style reclining couches define the salon seating — oversized, comfortable, and perfectly suited to long passages and relaxed evenings at anchor. This is a salon designed for real living, not just occasional weekend use.
Galley
Just forward of the salon is a fully equipped galley with everything needed to prepare any meal aboard. A port-side U-shaped settee provides a comfortable and casual dining area directly adjacent to the galley, ideal for everyday meals underway or relaxed dining at anchor. The galley is fitted with a large refrigerator, large sink, oven and stovetop, microwave, and large countertops with ample storage and drawers throughout.
Forward V-Berth Cabin
Forward of the galley is a large and private V-berth cabin featuring full sleeping accommodation, head and shower, and generous storage space.
Aft Master Cabin
Walking aft from the salon brings you to the expansive full-beam master cabin, generously proportioned and privately located at the stern, featuring a large bed, full head and shower, and newer large washer and dryer units for full laundry capability aboard.
Aft Enclosed Upper Room
Above the aft master cabin and accessed from the salon stairway is a large enclosed aft room, one of the most distinctive and enjoyable spaces on the vessel. With expansive windows all around, comfortable seating, and a bar area, this space is perfect as a second lounge, an entertainment room, or a quiet retreat with a view.
Aft Cockpit & Dinghy
From the aft upper room, a ladder leads down to a large open aft cockpit, a practical, spacious, and comfortable outdoor living area fitted with an Achilles dinghy with Yamaha 4 HP outboard mounted to a stainless steel davit system for easy dinghy launching and retrieval.
HELM & NAVIGATION
The lower salon helm station is the primary command center, well-positioned for comfortable long-watch operation with excellent visibility through the large salon windows. Electronics include a Simrad Halo 20 Plus radar (newer, upper helm station), chartplotter, Robertson AP 100 DL autopilot, Cobra Marine VHF radio, and depth sounder.
MECHANICAL & CONDITION
Power is provided by twin Perkins 225 HP diesel engines, among the most trusted and proven marine diesels ever built. Perkins engines are legendary in the marine world for their mechanical simplicity, durability, and ease of maintenance. Both engines start instantly. The Nortkhern Lights generator is equally well maintained and starts without hesitation.

2003 Grand Banks Classic
Rare for the West Coast · Twin Low Hour Caterpillar 420 HP Diesels · Full Teak Interior · Turnkey Condition
Proudly presented by David Morris: 310-266-6856
THE VESSEL
Designed with input from legendary naval architect Arthur DeFever, the Grand Banks Classic series was engineered for long-range passagemaking and extended liveaboard comfort.
This well maintained 2003 Grand Banks Classic 42 represents everything the Grand Banks name has stood for over six decades with enduring elegance, exceptional craftsmanship, and an unmatched capability for serious blue-water cruising. With her timeless design, beautiful pilothouse and full-teak interior, she is a very nice example of the Classic 42. This one is by far the lowest priced lowest hours Classic 42 on the market today.
The Classic 42 is among the most celebrated hulls in the entire Grand Banks lineage — a proven offshore cruiser equally at home on coastal weekends and extended passages.
LAYOUT & LIVING SPACES
Step aboard and you are immediately welcomed by the expansive single-level salon and galley — a vast, open living space flooded with natural light from windows all around. The L-shaped teak settee anchors the salon, creating an effortlessly social environment perfect for entertaining underway or at anchor. Whether hosting guests for dinner or relaxing with family on a passage, this space defines the Grand Banks lifestyle.
The galley-up configuration places the fully equipped kitchen at salon level, preserving the open, connected feel of the main living area. Fitted with dual refrigeration systems (a dedicated freezer and a full-size refrigerator), a three-burner Princess electric stove and oven, a Sharp Grill2 convection microwave, a large sink, and generous counter space with ample under-counter storage, the galley is equipped for extended passages and self-sufficient living.
Aft, the full-beam master cabin is a private sanctuary. A walk-around Queen-size island berth centres the space, with a large ensuite head, a separate shower, a washer/dryer laundry unit, extra-large closets, oversized drawers, and under-berth stowage throughout. Forward, a second private cabin offers comfortable accommodation for guests or crew, with its own ensuite head, separate shower, and substantial closet and drawer storage.
The lower pilothouse is the main command centre — thoughtfully designed for long-watch comfort and precise navigation. Excellent all-round visibility, full electronics at hand, and a starboard door for immediate deck access during docking maneuvers make this station a joy to operate. Above, the flybridge helm station opens to a magnificent upper deck — one of the defining features of the Classic 42 — offering 360-degree panoramic views and ample seating space for entertaining, and a full bimini shade. Whether cruising offshore, hosting a sunset dinner at anchor, or simply taking in the morning light, the flybridge transforms time aboard into an exceptional experience.
Aft, the cockpit provides a generous working, fishing and entertaining platform with direct access to the large swim step, while the lazarette offers substantial equipment storage underneath. A well secured heavy-duty crane arm deploys the RIB dinghy fitted with a steering console and 30 HP Honda outboard, making shore excursions effortless.
MECHANICAL & CONDITION
Power is provided by twin Caterpillar 420 HP diesel engines on direct drive shafts. These are strong running time-proven power-plants that have been comprehensively maintained. In March of 2026, both engines received extensive service including after-coolers, replacement of various hoses, all fluids changed, plus other standard components that required service or changing. The Northern Lights generator also received normal maintenance service at this time. All batteries were replaced new in 2026. The engine room — accessible and clean — is among the most well-presented we have inspected. There are literally thousands of dollars in spare parts onboard for long range cruising.
Also included are two full office crates of maintenance records that correspond with decades of professional care, supplemented by the captain's personal logs. This vessel's history is among the most thoroughly documented we have encountered. At economical cruise speeds between 8 and 12 knots, she returns excellent range; full throttle she delivers 19 knots, as broker-tested. The only items identified as needed are new canvas (the existing is still functional), a new freshwater pump and fresh bottom paint. However, by every other measure, she is in turnkey condition, ready for immediate use.
A full vessel detail and exterior teak rail refinishing was completed in March 2026. The interior wood remains in immaculate, original condition throughout.

BROKER OPINION
"I personally inspected and sea trialed this boat March 11 of 2026 just prior to listing. The engines start right up, she cruises smoothly, runs solid and strong, and is fully seaworthy. The owners are great folks and are well known to me. They truly loved this boat for a very long time. This is a very well maintained Classic 42. She has recent extensive maintenance records, as well as all records spanning decades. The boat has minimal wear normal for her age. She could eventually use new canvas, but the upholstery is in very good condition throughout. The boat needs bottom paint in the near future and the freshwater pump for the water system has a slight leak and could use replacement. That’s about it for issues that my team and I spotted. Overall, this vessel is in turnkey-ready to cruise condition. As far as my research, this is the lowest priced twin engine 2003 Classic 42 that has ever been offered for sale in this condition."
BUILD QUALITY & HERITAGE
Grand Banks Yachts was founded in 1956 in the United States and later moved production to Malaysia, where the brand became synonymous with semi-displacement trawler yachts that combine the seagoing traditions of the North Atlantic fishing fleet with refined, liveable interiors. Designed with input from legendary naval architect Arthur DeFever, the Grand Banks Classic series was engineered for long-range passagemaking and extended liveaboard comfort.
Grand Banks hulls are built using a robust hand-laid fiberglass construction with a solid, full-keel design that delivers exceptional stability, directional tracking, and sea-keeping ability in all conditions. The semi-displacement hull form is specifically engineered for long-range economical passagemaking — running efficiently at displacement speeds while capable of reaching planning speeds when conditions demand it. The hull laminate is known throughout the industry for its thickness, rigidity, and resistance to osmotic blistering, and the structural integrity of vessels of this era remains exceptional decades after commissioning.
Below decks, this Grand Banks is finished in the traditional manner that made the brand famous: rich, warm teak throughout — cabinetry, soles, joinery, trim — all crafted to a standard that simply cannot be replicated at this price point in today's market. The full teak interior and parquet salon floor are in immaculate condition, a testament to the quality of the original construction and the meticulous care she has received throughout her life.

She is a bluewater passage vessel that is great not just for extended cruising, but also a fantastic day sailing vessel. Its large interior layout makes this Swan 51 a serious liveaboard candidate or a spacious place to relax with your crew after a day on the water. The extensive cruise package brings extra sails, rigging hardware, lines, spares and tools of over $100,000 in value.

PERFORMANCE & SAILING
The Swan 51 design is a proven high-performance bluewater cruiser with a distinguished racing record for the brand, including the Swan World Cup. The Swan 51 is known throughout the sailing community for being fast, well-balanced, and easy to sail — a rare combination that makes her equally suited to short-handed offshore passages and fully-crewed racing. Her folding three-blade propeller retracts cleanly when sailing, reducing drag to an absolute minimum and delivering performance closer to a dedicated racing yacht than a typical cruising sailboat.
BUILD QUALITY & CONSTRUCTION
Nautor Swan built the Swan 51 using a robust, hand-laid fiberglass hull with a solid keel construction and deep bilge design optimized for offshore stability and performance. The hull laminate is thick, rigid, and exceptionally well engineered, built to handle sustained bluewater passage-making in demanding conditions. The hull form is designed for a combination of upwind efficiency and downwind stability, making her fast, balanced, and confidence-inspiring in all points of sail. The teak decks are a hallmark of Swan craftsmanship — laid with care and precision, they provide both beauty and excellent non-slip footing underway. Below decks, the interior joinery is finished in the warm, traditional teak and holly that Swan is famous for, crafted to a standard that simply cannot be found in modern production boats. Storage throughout the vessel is thoughtfully and smartly designed, making excellent use of every cubic foot of the hull. A particularly noteworthy design feature of this vessel is the integrated water tank system. Rather than cutting through hull ribs to install a single large tank which would compromise the structural integrity of the hull, the designer placed multiple water tanks between the hull ribs and connected them together. This preserves the full stiffness and integrity of the hull while providing 200 gallons of water capacity. It is a uniquely elegant engineering solution that speaks directly to the Swan philosophy of building boats right, not just building them fast.
DESIGNER & BUILDER HERITAGE
Germán Frers is one of the most celebrated naval architects in sailing history. Born in Argentina and trained under his father, also a distinguished yacht designer, Frers built his international reputation designing grand prix ocean racers and high-performance cruising yachts for some of the world's most prestigious builders. His designs are known for their perfect balance of speed, seakeeping, and comfort — blending racing performance with blue-water capability in a way few designers have matched. The Swan 51 is widely regarded as one of his most successful and enduring designs. Nautor Swan was founded in 1966 in Pietarsaari, Finland, by Pekka Koskenkyla. From the very beginning, the company set out to build the finest offshore sailing yachts in the world — and by most measures, they succeeded. Swan yachts are hand-built to exacting standards, using the highest quality materials, and are renowned throughout the sailing world for their structural integrity, fit and finish, and long-term durability. Decades after they left the yard, Swan hulls remain among the most sought-after vessels on the brokerage market, a testament to the quality of their construction.
